Victoria's Government Debt and Spending

The concern

Victoria has accumulated substantial government debt, raising questions about the sustainability of public spending and the financial burden on future generations.

Some residents believe the government should reduce expenditure and prioritise debt repayment, even if this means delaying projects or reducing certain services. Others argue that government investment in infrastructure, healthcare, education and other essential services remains important for Victoria's long-term economic and social wellbeing.

Reducing debt may improve the state's financial position over time, but spending cuts can also affect public services, employment and economic growth.

Future consideration

Can Victoria reduce its government debt while maintaining essential services, supporting economic growth and meeting the needs of future generations?

There are ways to reduce debt without spending on basic needs that Vic wants. Politicians have done it in the past with increased tourism, investment in events, and investment in specific money earning businesses. This would be a better way.
