Mathew Clarke

As an upcoming representative for the Melbourne District in the 2026 Victorian State election, I feel it is important to ensure the state government listens to you and gives the Victorian people what they need as well as what they want. The old days of being told what to do by your government because "they know what's best," is not appropriate. You need the option to make the changes you want by telling your representative what it is exactly you want.

Try not to fall into the habit of voting for a known political party. They only want prosperity for their party and to support their own personal ideas. When you vote for me, you vote for your beliefs and your voice.

Politicians should have listened to you. They should have changed Victoria for the better. You, your family, and your friends deserve a representative who will make the changes you want instead of only changing what suits the political party you vote for. Victoria, Melbourne is not a political party; it is a people who want politicians to listen and act.

If you can't afford a home, or have high rent, or high bills and expenses, then you already know we, as Victorians, are ready for someone to make the right changes. It doesn't matter if you are a low-income earner, or a middle-income earner, or a high-income earner; everyone deserves a better Victoria and a way to make their money go further.

You are all adults with experiences, knowledge, and thoughts of your own. You all know how your city and your individual regions should be run. You may not know the technical nuances on how to get it done, but the gaping holes of inadequacy are there in all their terrible glory for everyone to see. So, as a responsible adult, why should you have to stand on the sidelines while bad decisions are made and your city is ruined? It's time you were allowed to take part in the decision-making processes of your community. It's time you were given a say in what happens next.

As an independent, I can only represent one electorate, which is the Melbourne District. Click on the link to see the area it encompasses (approximate area: Melbourne CBD, West Melbourne, North Melbourne, Carlton, East Melbourne, Jolimont, Docklands, Newquay, Parkville).

Once elected, I will be in a better position to support all Australians (upper and lower house), which means we will be able to cover federal elections and every state/territory election. I hope you understand that your right to choose your future is important. Please help me deliver this to you. You've got nothing to lose! The alternative is that politics remains the way it has been run for decades, which is without any great successes for Australians, and the same old treadmill.

A new Victoria, Melbourne will be created with your ideas. Your policies. Your way. You live here and know exactly what you want. So tell me! And vote Mathew Clarke to support your way of life.

My Opinion

Not left, not right, but somewhere in the middle. Like all representatives and Australians, I have opinions, ideas, and thoughts on what is best for us. However, as an Australian, you should be on equal ground with all politicians regardless of their station. In the broad scheme of policies, my opinion matters the same as yours. No more and no less. It's why I want you to tell me what you want so I can make sure it happens. My opinions will be alongside yours, but will be no more important than yours.

I have watched politics worsen in Australia, where candidates are voted for based on popularity rather than wisdom. Also, the party rather than true thought on what the people of Melbourne want. We may already be on our way to a crazy and strange future, but let's see if we can make some sane decisions along the way. Don't let the big two/three/four parties brainwash you into thinking that they know what is best for you. Vote for change so you get your say.

A Little About Me

My first full-time work was in a warehouse, packing boxes and driving forklifts and trucks, so you can see I started from the bottom and know what an average Australian goes through each day.

I then moved into the printing industry, where I worked with Photoshop and other desktop publishing software. I dabbled in a few industries following that, but eventually fell into a few different public service roles (state and federal), where I helped to keep the public and nation safe. A tough job, and one that will always be thankless, but helps keep everyone safe. It's now time for me to support you in your much-loved suburb and help you build prosperity.

My hobbies in my early years were racquet sports and acting in plays and films. I now enjoy writing novels, hiking in the hills, and playing with my young girls as they grow to understand the world we live in. I'm not rich, but I'm also not poor. I sit in the middle, which is right along the majority. Sounds like I might be your standard average Joe, right? Well, this average Joe wants to spend your money the right way to make your lives better. We'll make our home better first, then we'll move that prosperity to everywhere else in Australia.

I do not want to be a symbol of popularity to gain votes. I am only here as a way for you to get your ideas and thoughts to parliament. In essence, I am unimportant except as a tool for the people of Victoria, Melbourne, to get what they deserve.

Save the Melbourne District from the potential of terrible governance and help me get the votes I need so I can help you and our community.

Without your support, I will be another voice in the wind, trodden down by the big threeish parties. I can only help you if you vote for me.

How Will You get A Voice In Parliament?

The information you send in before the election, which should be in the form of ideas, thoughts, and policies, will be expertly collated and readied for submission as evidence-based policy. There is a requirement for support from others within the Melbourne District to push our policies toward becoming law, but as long as everyone votes for Mathew Clarke, it is not only possible, but also as close to definite as we can be in politics. It will allow us to change your suburb in the way you want.

Experts in their selected professions will enjoy putting forward their thoughts and will often take the lead, which is understandable. However, you live in the District of Melbourne and the surrounding suburbs, so your say is as important, if not more so. Please, therefore, ensure you get involved even if it is only once in the lead-up to the election to get your point across. My policy ideas will sit alongside yours and public servant experts in equal and anonymous standing, as we determine what is best for the Melbourne District.

Note that anyone can submit the form. However, due to Mathew Clarke only being able to represent the Melbourne District at this time, he will have to reserve the top answers for those who encompass the Melbourne District Suburbs. Click on the link to see (approximate area: Melbourne, West Melbourne, North Melbourne, Carlton, East Melbourne, Jolimont, Docklands, Newquay, Parkville).

Executive-level state public servants are already on the payroll and know how the state of Victoria should be run. Under them are the people who know the most about the policies we are all interested in, as they are the ones who do the actual work in government each day (not the politicians - who only wheel/deal with rival politicians to partially get your policies to the upper house). The policies are then often denied or altered (although sometimes it is for good reason), so that they barely represent what was initially requested. Regardless, we will use the experts we already have in government to help create likely outcomes for policies you want and get professional advice to mould policy so it will work best for you. This time, the people will NOT be ignored.

We will no longer throw millions of dollars at a problem and seek out expensive outside reviews. Spending money on deciding whether we need to spend money seems like a terrible plan (in some outside circumstances, it may be warranted to seek and pay for advice, but only if our public servants lack that particular skill). Feasibility studies are what public servants are skilled at providing and can do so within their regular remit without throwing millions around like we're made of money.

The politicians want us to reward them for spending billions when we see no results. No longer! We have experts already. Let's use them as they were supposed to be used when we employed them.

You may wish to read this parliamentary review.

Note: it covers only Commonwealth politics and does not give you an answer to your many questions, but instead offers facts to assess and debate as you see fit. This is relatable to all politics, regardless of whether it is a state or a Commonwealth study.

Politicians Who Work For You.

So, what will I do as your representative if I'm not arguing with politicians, complaining about other politicians, or making deals with politicians who do not want what you want? I will, instead, as your representative, guide Victorians in the pursuit of obtaining a state that they will benefit from and be proud of. I will help you create a suburb you can live in without spending millions on ridiculous expenses that don't give you what you asked for.

Are you thinking I should be a leader, not a guide?

Well, I say, it is best to be both.

I'll lead when you need leadership, and I will guide you when you want to make a particular decision.

I will not be a leader who stands behind the populace and verbally whips them into somehow making more money for the government so Victoria's deficit can be paid off more quickly. I will instead lead from within the populace and realise (ours/your) policy ideas so we can present them to the Victorian Government. My goal is to make the Melbourne electorate, as well as the rest of Victoria, a better place to live. We can only do this with change that matters, rather than the same empty promises that cost too many billions of dollars when no money is actually available.

My main role will be to create ideas that will dig us out of the hole we have been placed in and present the ideas to the people with accurate pros and cons so we can decide on the best course of action. Knowing what an outcome could be, depending on the choices we make as an electorate, will make us the wise electorate while the rest of Victoria continues the path alongside the politicians who are only making decisions based on their own greed, their party's wants, and the need to obtain more votes in any way possible.

Hopefully, after you vote me into office and I start working for you, the rest of Victoria's electorates will realise that Victorians want immediate and useful action to make their suburbs the best place to live regarding cost, safety, wealth, happiness, and community. We can then begin placing trustworthy representatives throughout Victoria (and the rest of Australia) who want to work for you and put the populace first. And that's without the current political and personal greed.

Integrity is what will make everyone's lives better.
